On Sunday, out of the blue, they said I could go home. Considering it was only a day or 2 after my previous post about “Waiting…”, it was good timing. It was one of the “maybe” days so it wasn’t completely unexpected, but other “maybe” days had already passed, and it seemed more likely that i’d stay in for a while longer due to the swelling in my leg, so it was a nice surprise. The entire process was so quick that it was a bit overwhelming, and going outside was also very weird after that long staring at a ceiling. Dad picked us up and drove me and the wifey up to Hazelbrook, and while it was a painful and awkward drive, just being in a car at all felt awesome.
The important thing is… I’M HOME. Well, mum’s house to be specific, but mum’s house is always home, no matter how old you are. Right now i’m writing this from my child-hood room, though thankfully not in a single bed anymore, and my little hospital TV has been replaced by my 32″ LCD, Xbox 360 and ADSL2+ with WiFi. It also means the hospital cube-shaped fish has been replaced by crumbed baked salmon and salads and fresh juice. Feels good!
There’s still a long way to go in this journey (there you go dad, I used the the J word
), coming home was more like a check-point than an ending. It’s a very significant check-point though, and a big step forward in the recovery process. Now i’ve only got 1 drain left in me, and the 2 wound sites that are healing and in a few weeks I can have the staples taken out.
For now, it’s a matter of bed rest, catching up with people online now that i’ve got proper net again, and more waiting… but this time, it’s a much more enjoyable environment to be waiting in.

Excellent news.. sounds great! ill see when i can head up again!
Great news that you’ve escaped! Enjoy the spring air of the Blueys and remember – no cliff climbing until the staples are out…
Cheers, Richard
Thanks Richard, i’ll try!
Hey Callan, great you are back among the mountains. BTW have you seen this http://mashable.com/2010/09/09/f-cancer/ ?? Best wishes, Jack
Hi Jack, yup I saw that but I don’t really use Facebook. I have an account for family/friends to get updates on my condition, but that’s about it. As a whole, Facebook is not on my Christmas card list
It’s a good campaign though, and i’m liking the new crop of campaigns like this one, or unfuckthegulf.com.
Hi Callan
Haven’t seen you for a long time but after Paul told me what the world’s been throwing at you I wanted to say hello and give you a big kiss. Glad to hear you are in the mts and hanging in. much love Sheena x
Thanks Sheena
